Gold Karat Value Chart: What Each Purity Is Actually Worth

Every karat is simply a percentage of pure gold. Memorise the percentages and you can estimate any offer yourself.
The conversion factors
- 24K — 99.9% pure — factor 0.999
- 22K — 91.6% pure — factor 0.916
- 21K — 87.5% pure — factor 0.875
- 18K — 75.0% pure — factor 0.750
- 14K — 58.5% pure — factor 0.585
- 9K — 37.5% pure — factor 0.375
How to use them
Take the pure gold rate per gram, multiply by the factor for your karat, then multiply by your weight in grams. That is the metal value of your item before the buying spread.
Why 18K is worth less than you might think
An 18K piece contains a quarter less gold than 24K by weight. Stone-set European jewellery is often 18K, so a visually impressive piece can carry a modest gold value. This is not a low offer — it is the metal content.
Our online calculator applies these factors automatically to the live rate, for both gold and silver.
