From London Spot Price to Your Local Gold Rate: The Full Journey

Every honest local rate can be traced back to the world spot price. Once you can follow that trail, no quote is ever a mystery again.
Step one: the benchmark
Global gold trades continuously, with a twice-daily London benchmark used as a reference for physical settlement. This is the number quoted in dollars per troy ounce on financial news.
Step two: currency conversion
The dollar price is converted to rupees using the prevailing USD/LKR rate. Because both inputs move, local rates are refreshed through the day rather than fixed at opening.
Step three: purity adjustment
The pure gold rate is multiplied by the purity factor of the karat being valued — 0.916 for 22K, 0.750 for 18K, and so on.
Step four: the buying spread
- A buying price sits slightly below the pure metal value to cover refining, testing and operating costs.
- A transparent buyer keeps this spread narrow and consistent for all customers.
- Ask what the spread is. If nobody can tell you, that is your answer.
Our live rate page shows the current bid and ask so you can see the spread for yourself before you visit.
