Why Gold Rates Change Every Single Day

Customers sometimes arrive with a rate they saw two days ago and expect it to hold. Gold does not work that way, and understanding why saves a lot of frustration.
Gold trades nearly 24 hours
Asian, European and American sessions run in sequence, so the price is being discovered continuously. By the time a Colombo branch opens, the market has already traded through the night.
What moves it intraday
- Economic data releases, especially inflation and employment figures.
- Central bank statements and interest rate expectations.
- Geopolitical events and safe-haven flows.
- Currency movements, including USD/LKR.
What this means for you
A quote is valid for the day it is given. If you get a valuation and return a week later, expect the number to have changed in either direction. This is normal and applies to every honest buyer.
Check the live rate on the morning of your visit rather than relying on a figure you saw earlier in the week.
